JOB SUMMARY: Experience your America and build a fulfilling career by joining the National Park Service. Become a part of our mission to unite our past, our cultures and our special places, to establish important connections to the present and build a rich and lasting legacy for future generations.
Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks.

Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, dental, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4000 feet. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season from March through October.

The Human Resources Office (HRO) which serves Yosemite is located in El Portal (which means ‘Gateway’ in Spanish). El Portal, a tiny community in the Merced River canyon, dates back to the early 1900s when, in 1907, a railroad terminus was completed to serve the growing tourist business, and later the lumber and mining interest. The railroad is long gone, but El Portal survives in its old houses, post office and beautiful canyon surroundings. Two positions currently exist that are permanent full-time.

Merit Promotion Information: Applications will be accepted from current Federal employees serving under a career or career conditional appointment, candidates with reinstatement eligibility, or candidates eligible for special appointing authority. VEOA-eligible veterans may apply (To be eligible, a veteran must: be a preference eligible OR veteran separated after 3 or more years of continuous active service performed under honorable conditions. Veterans who were released shortly before completing a 3-year tour are considered to be eligible. [‘Active service’ defined in title 37, U S Code, means active duty in the uniformed services and includes full-time training duty, annual training duty, full-time National Guard duty, and attendance, while in the active service, at a school designated as a service school by law or by the Secretary concerned.]) If you apply using status or a special appointment authority, you must submit your Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50’s) and/or supporting documentation.
