The Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park will open for the season tomorrow, tomorrow, Friday, May 2, 2014, at noon for all vehicular traffic.
The Rim Fire is continuing to burn in the Yosemite and Emigrant Wilderness and in the Stanislaus National Forest. Here’s the latest on what’s open and what’s closed and some advisories if you’re traveling in the area.
I know I’m a little late but in case you missed it, the Tioga Road and Highway 120 through Yosemite are open to traffic once again. Best get your business done on the other side before winter gets here and it closes again. Cold weather is already on it’s way. If you were planning on heading east to see the aspens changing color, go now.
Good news for residents and Yosemite visitors alike, Highway 120 to Yosemite from Groveland is now open.
If you’ve been waiting to get through Tioga Pass well, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.
If you were thinking about heading up and traversing the Sierra via Tioga Pass (Highway 120) you can forget it.
From the NPS website: Last update: April 26, 2012 Tioga Road: The Tioga Road has been plowed, but much work remains, including significant road repairs and rock removal, along with plowing of parking lots, side roads, and clearing of ditches. There is no estimated opening date for the Tioga Road.
