  • A Little iPhone Help from Readers

So I just got an iPhone and I’m looking for suggestions for websites and applications. Mainly I’d like something for blogging so I’m not totally out of the loop when I spend those long hours visiting my wife in the hospital but if you’ve got something really cool send it my way.

  • Photo of the Day: Snowy Tioga Pass

Today’s Photo of the Day comes not from a person but from the UCSD webam at the Tioga Pass entrance. I decided to check to see how much snow had fallen in the pass when I happened across this beautiful shot. Don’t forget you can submit your photos by sending me the photo or a…

  • A Bunch of Real Life Heroes

I’d like to take a second to focus on a great group of guys and gals who work tirelessly day and night, in rain and snow risking their own lives to help others. Their work reads like an adventure novel. Their exploits seem almost fictional but in truth they’re quite real. I’m not talking about…

  • Wednesday Weekend Weather Sept. 21st – 23rd 2007

This weekend is going to be a wet and chilly one. Snow is predicted at the higher elevations if this low pressure from Canada moves over the Central Valley. If it heads more to the west it could be drier but still quite cold. This cold snap is predicted to extend all weekend and into…

  • Photo of the Day: Zoomed in Yosemite Falls by Randy January

I’ve posted a couple photos by Randy January now and this one is definitely one of my favorites. Whenever I look at it it brings to mind visions of a secluded rainforest somewhere in Central America not in Yosemite. Very cool Randy. Photo by Randy January via Flickr.

  • Photo of the Day: The Rocky and the Narrow by Random Curiosity

David (aka RandomCuriosity on Flickr) has some great shots of Yosemite. This one pushes my “fear of heights” button and makes me a bit squeemish. Great shot David. Be sure to also head over to David’s blog and read his posts about his recent hike to Lower Yosemite Falls and then North Dome via Upper…

  • Important Weather Info: Snow Expected This Weekend

Just checked the weather. Looks like there’s a strong chance for early season SNOW above 8,000 ft. this weekend. This is the earliest I’ve seen snow in a while. Plan accordingly if you’re going backpacking or plan to traverse the Sierra via Tioga Pass.

  • Photo of the Day: Yosemite_032507-39_pp by Robert Vaughn

Today’s Photo of the Day is another pic from my wife, Tania. It’s a great photo and I really like it but I’d have loved to use this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rvaughn/454697688. Unfortunately I don’t have permission so I’ll just post a link. Both are great shots though. Nice job Robert. Photo by Robert Vaughn via Flickr.

  • Update: Overdue Hiker Found Safe

I’ve received word from contacts at the National Park Service that the overdue hiker was found in the vicinity of Taft Point this morning where he’d become disoriented and had been wandering for the last few days. He’s in good condition and doing OK.

  • More Information on the Overdue Hiker

I didn’t see anything in the Park Press Releases about the missing hiker but here’s a snippet from the Modesto Bee. I’ll be sure to post more information as I get it. The Modesto Bee: “Park rangers took the rare step of calling a large-scale search and rescue mission Sunday as they continued hunting for…
