Highway 140 Opening Tomorrow – Use Caution
Highway 140 will be open to all traffic starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30, at 6 am for eastbound traffic and 6:45 am for westbound traffic. Use extra caution–fire crews and vehicles may be present on the road.

On Monday evening, August 22, 2011, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Yosemite Emergency Communication Center received a report of a person falling off the face of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Highway 140 Closed Due to Fire
Highway 140 is closed west of El Portal due to a fire burning outside of Yosemite National Park. Currently there is no access to Yosemite Valley from Mariposa via Highway 140. Highways 41 and 120 are open to Yosemite Valley. For more information on the Highway 140 road closure call Caltrans at (800)427-7623

Another Death on Half Dome
Update: The NPS is saying now lightning wasn’t a factor in her death and that she slipped on the cables. Initial reports were that she had been struck on Half Dome. Very saddened to hear a woman was struck and killed by lightning this weekend while on top of Half Dome. Our deepest sympathies go…

Hiker Missing Near Upper Yosemite Falls
Yosemite National Park is searching for 30 year old George Penca, from Hawthorne, California. Penca, who has been missing since Friday, June 17 was last seen on the Upper Yosemite Fall trail in Yosemite Valley where he was hiking with a group of people from his church.
