Meanwhile Just Across the River in Camp Sylvester

I have the opportunity to meet lots of new and interesting people in my job. One such person I met recently is Ken Peterson from Camp Sylvester, a non-profit camp in the Stanislaus National Forest that borders Yosemite.

Camp sylvester

For over 80 years Camp Sylvester has provided educational and recreational camping facilities to 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, church groups, Girl and Boy Scout troops, non-profit organizations, and families.

Located off Highway 108 just down the road from Pinecrest Lake, Camp Sylvester is a great place to take the family if Yosemite is all booked up. There is lots of hiking and mountain biking opportunities nearby, trout fishing in the Stanislaus River, horseback riding, boating, rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boat, bowling, golf, a casino and, if you’re got teenage boys and girls, Pinecrest is only a few minutes away with beautiful beaches and lots of other families with kids the same age as yours that they can socialize with. Hey what’s better than a little summer love when you’re a teen right?

Camp Sylvester is a great place for families and groups and the prices are UNBELIEVABLE. It’s also a little over an hour from Yosemite so it makes a pretty good day trip should you decide you can’t stand all the beauty and fun you’re enjoying at the Camp.
