Visiting Yosemite for New Years? It’s a great time to come

Yosemite is a wonderful place to spend New Year’s Eve and usher in the new year, this year, with the lack of snow fall we’ve had, some rare things are available for you to do.1. Glacier Point Road
YES! It’s STILL open. It closed for a while but with no real snow accumulation in November and December the road has reopened. Imagine seeing the sun rise January 1st from Glacier Point or on top of Sentinel Dome.

2. Tioga Pass
Tioga Pass is also open still. Historically there’ve only been a handful of years the pass has been open on New Years so this is a very, very rare occasion. Sorry there’s no overnight parking or camping available along the Tioga Road and you want to be sure to call and check conditions before you go. Theres rain clouds expected to make their way into California the 31st that might bring some showers to the area.

3. Ice Skating
The ice skating rink is open in Yosemite Valley and, since the Tioga Road is open, people have been skating on the high sierra lakes. If you plan on skating on a lake be VERY careful. With no services along the Tioga Road help is a LONG, LONG ways away.

Here’s another video of ice skating on Tenaya Lake this year from the fine folks at Yosemite Photos.

4. Mariposa Grove
Yes, the Mariposa Grove road is still open. Take your family to see some of the largest living things on Earth.

For more information on what’s open and current conditions visit the Yosemite National Park Web page or call 209-372-0200 and press 1 then 1 again.

I was up at Tenaya Lake last weekend! Incredible with the frozen lake! People were skating, playing with their dogs and playing a hockey game. One word “Spectacular” Some pics on my Facebook profile http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151101479230385.775976.758585384&type=1&l=949ed7de4d
