Tioga Pass

Due to scheduling it doesn’t look like I’m going to get a chance to make it through Tioga Pass this weekend for the opening. If someone out there happens to make the trip and would be kind enough to send me pics and a conditions report I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

As a follow up to the Tioga Pass posting, I’d like to know what conditions are like along the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. I’m planning a trip next week and am trying to determine a Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, or White Wolf trailhead for a ‘there and back’ trip to Waterwheel.

Snowshoes or no snowshoes, Pate Valley river crossings, etc.

    Thanks for the help!

Hi, we drove through the pass at mid-day today. It was clear sailing all the way; encountered wet road from spring run off a couple of dozen times but the road was otherwise dry.

There is a lot of snow on the ground and the waterfalls and water run offs are fantastic. Also, there wasn’t too much traffic — at least going east.

    Sorry, didn’t take any photos.

You can see by my pics that it is indeed open, and that there are patches of snow on the ground still, or as of this weekend. As Doris said, there are some places that are wet from run-off, and there was one area that was marked as an avalanche zone, no stopping. That’s just east of Lake Tenaya, and yes, there were people stopped by the road.

    Traffic was very light.

The Mobile restaurant was in full swing in Lee Vining, and the road to Bodie was clear as well. Lots of visitors there, BTW. Gorgeous day, and fun was had by all. ‘

So, you going to stop by and say hi, Loyd?

Went up on Saturday and drove both ways. It was magnificent as usual. Two weeks previous drove up to the Yosemite Creek Bridge and NOBODY was on the road. They must have thought the whole road was closed…but I didn’t 🙂 The snow that was fairly deep at the bridge had completely melted by Saturday. Still plenty of snow higher up and the road wasn’t real busy. Took great pics but not sure how to post them. E-mail me with info on how to post the pics and I would be more than happy to do that.

Drove up to the meadows last Saturday, beautiful, had the place almost to ourselves, only problem was the Deet loving mosquitos, would recommend repellent with as high level of Deet as you can stand. We were using 25% and still got eaten. You can get 100% Deet. I heard things are opening this next weekend.

Go Tahoe! This is a great blog and I am glad I found it. I love to learn everything I can about fly fishing because I never have been very good at it. I like to bass fish and have had pretty good luck with that. Striper fishing is way too easy but I always get my limit. I found a great place to get the best prices and biggest selection on the stuff that catches big fish. You can find it at http://championfishtackle.com I am going to return here and try to participate in the replies if I can figure out something that will contribute to the conversation. Keep up the great blogging!
