Sonora and Ebbetts Pass Open For The Season

For those of you looking to traverse the Sierra Nevada both Highways 108 (Sonora Pass) and 4 (Ebbetts Pass) are open for the season. If you’re looking to use this as an option to enter Yosemite keep in mind that 108 will add 1-2 hours additional driving time and Ebbetts Pass will add about 4 hours depending on your route.

For more information on road conditions you can call Caltrans at (800) 427-7623 or go online to http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/

If you’re thinking about coming in either of these ways shoot me an email and with your itinerary and I’ll do my best to fill you in with where to stop, what’s good to eat and things to do to make the trip a little more enjoyable.

Does anyone have pictures where the road crew is? I keep seeing closed from Crane flat to 5 mile west of 395. If you can find some pics can you post them or send me some? I was up at Leavitt Meadows this past weekend. It snowed in the afternoon all three days. I have pics of Sonora Pass if interested?

    Thanks, Clark

I will be taking the family to Yosemite for the first time (for a wedding on West side of Yosemite). Coming up from Carson City, we were told to take 120 from 395 and that there is a great gas station/food joint. But 120 seems to be closed with no estimated open date. So we were thinking of taking 88 to 49 to 120 from west side. Smeone told us that Sonora Pass (108) is a good drive though very curvy.

Any suggestions on to see or do, eat, fill up gas on our way up either from 88 or 108? Anything to make it an enjoyable drive/trip….we have two small (5 and 2 yr olds) children.

Any idea on 120 opening within the next week (we travle starting next friday…..June 23).

    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
