So You Want to Hike to the Top of Yosemite Falls Do You?

Gearing up for family vacation we try to get ready by learning as much as we can about our destination by reading blogs and watching videos on Youtube. If you do the same thing and you’ve been thinking about doing the hike to the top of Yosemite Falls then this video is for you. It not only shows you the top of the Falls and the spectacular views, but it shows just how narrow and steep that trail is as you wind up the side of Yosemite Valley to the top. Good stuff.

If you can’t see the video posted above because you’re reading this in your email then you can click here or on the image above to watch it on Youtube.

If you are thinking about doing this hike I’d recommend taking a lot of water, trekking poles, a good hat with a brim all the way around, a kerchief, and a good pair of boots with a stiff sole. The hike is almost entirely without shade on the north side of the Valley. That means it’s going to get direct sunlight during the spring and summer months for most of the day. This year it’s already dry and the trails are dusty. A good kerchief to cover your mouth and nose will help in the dustier spots and works well to shade your neck. You can also put a little water on it to cool off. The hat will give you your own little oasis of shade and keep the sun off your neck and ears as you hike. The boots and poles are just to save your feet and knees especially on the way down. There’s a lot of granite you’ll be climbing over. Have fun!
