Photo of the Day: Sunset, Mount Conness and Lower Young Lake by G. Dan Mitchell

Yesterday we featured Phil King’s “Sunset on Mount Conness” as Photo of the Day, today we have G. Dan Mitchell’s take. Though both are of the same subject matter, they each have a different feeling and tone.

Which one do you like best?

Nice work, Dan. Thanks for posting it in the Yosemite Blog Group Pool on Flickr. By the way, if you haven’t joined the Yosemite Blog Group on Flickr, what are you waiting for? Get to it!

Hi. Thanks for pointing out my photo of the summit of Mt. Conness from Lower Young Lake. I visit Young Lakes annually, and often spend one evening shooting more or less this scene from the shoreline at the Ragged Peak end of the lake. On this evening I was fortunate to have a combination of lush wet-season growth along the shoreline and interesting color from the nearby wildfire.

Even if neither photo was mine, I wouldn’t vote for one over the other – Phil’s photo is really fine. One of the joys of visiting and photographing places like this comes from experiencing the infinite variations of light, season, location, and so on. I really enjoy – and can relate to – Phil’s unique perspective on this wonderful location.

Sorry Dan didn’t mean to make it seem like it was a contest.
