Photo of the Day: Mono Lake and Tufa by Edie Howe-Byrne

Photo: Mono Lake and Tufa formations. Photo by Edie Howe-Byrne.

Today’s Photo of the Day is another beautiful shot by Edie Howe-Byrne. If you’ve been reading the blog for any length of time you’ve undoubtedly heard me extolling the virtues of Mono Lake and why everyone should visit it. Edie has outdone herself with this photo showing just how beautiful Mono Lake can be.

If you like Edie’s photos(she’s got a ton of really beautiful ones on her Flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ambitious_wench/) she could use a little help getting a new camera. Prints are available by emailing her at: e.howe.byrne@gmail.com. If you’d like to make a donation you can find a donation button on her Live Journal page (http://ambitious-wench.livejournal.com/504514.html).

Great shot Edie.

Merci, Loyd! That day (yesterday) was an adventure; I was up at 4AM and on the road by 4:35 in order to arrive at Mono Lake by sunrise. It was made all the more adventurous by a very thick fog on 120 before Crane Flat–at times I had to slow to a crawl in order to follow the little markers on the roadway. The double yellow line had been obliterated by recent roadwork.

From there I opted to go up Lundy Canyon (after a filling and delicious breakfast of Spanish omlette, hashbrowns and sourdough toast at Nicely’s in Lee Vining).

I’m glad you like the image, and thanks for the plug!
