Morning Shot August 3 2009

Today’s Morning Shot isn’t a morning shot at all, it’s a beautiful susnset captured by Phil King. Phil recently backpacked into Young Lakes where he spent a couple of nights. Long enough to take some beautiful shots of the area. Very nice, Phil.

Today’s Forecast:
Sunny today with highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. Clouds developing this afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms. Overnight lows around 58F.

Lions and tigers and bear…well…just bears:
Every year bears do thousands of dollars of damage to visitor vehicles because of improperly stored food. Bears who become too aggressive in their pursuit of food, whether in your campsite, on your person or in your vehicle, are often destroyed (translation: killed). Do your part to protect these magnificent animals. Use the food lockers provided in your campsite or at the trail head. EVEN if you’re just going down to Glacier Point for a look, put your food in the lockers. You wouldn’t want this to be your car would you?

To Hell I Go!
Bodie used to be one of the roughest mining towns on the eastern side of the Sierra. Now it’s held in a giant forcefield where time doesn’t affect it so you can see what it was like back in the early days of California. Ok, there’s not really a forcefield just some really dedicated people who keep things from falling apart. But it’s seriously one of the coolest places you’ll visit and it’s just minutes outside of Yosemite’s Tioga Pass (Highway 120 East) entrance.

This Saturday (8/8) is Bodies annual Friends of Bodie BBQ. During the event the park comes alive for everyone with a parade, interesting activities and people in period costume.
