More Information on the Overdue Hiker

Photo: Search Underway for Missing Hiker by Edie Howe-Byrne

I didn’t see anything in the Park Press Releases about the missing hiker but here’s a snippet from the Modesto Bee. I’ll be sure to post more information as I get it.

The Modesto Bee: “Park rangers took the rare step of calling a large-scale search and rescue mission Sunday as they continued hunting for Ronald Hoggard, a 58-year-old city worker who last communicated with anyone on Friday.

Hoggard is city manager of Corcoran, a 22,000-person town in California’s San Joaquin Valley. He called his wife from car on Friday afternoon, and rangers say he seems to have disappeared somewhere between Fresno and the park’s south entrance near Fish Camp.

It’s unclear where Hoggard disappeared – or even whether he had entered park boundaries, Freeman said.

Hoggard – who is not an experienced hiker but is in good health – is an avid photographer. “I view photography as a means to see the world in a more beautiful way. I love the many opportunities it affords to express the world around us with light and color,” he wrote on his photography Web site.”

According to John Dill of NPS SAR, they found his car at Glacier Point on Friday afternoon.

UPDATE: It seems they found Roger; the word I got (unverified at this point) is that he is alive, that he was found either at or in the Fissures at Taft Point.
