Hunters Fire Update

The Hunters Fire is now over 1300 acres and 20% contained. The fire is progressing mainly southward with some east and west progression. Evacuations are in effect for the Hunters Valley Area including all of Hunters Valley Rd to Bear Valley Rd including Hunters Valley Access Rd and Detwiler. So far 2 residences and 1 outbuilding have been destroyed. Over 600 fire personnel, 3 air tankers, 4 helicopters and 7 bulldozers have been called in to fight the fire.

If you’re wondering why we’re watching this fire burning miles away from Yosemite so closely I’d like to take you back to last year when a small fire stared along the Tuolumne Drainage just east of Groveland. It was a little fire that you may have heard of called The Rim Fire. With how dry the conditions are this year and the amount of fuel available, it’s not unthinkable that this fire could easily turn into another Rim Fire and make it’s way up the Merced River canyon.
