Cedar Lodge Worker Missing After Car Tumbles Into Merced River

A search is on for the body of a missing Mariposa woman who was reported late to work last night at the Cedar Lodge just outside Yosemite. About 1A.M. this morning her vehicle was found in the Merced River between Savages Trading Post and Briceburg. Efforts to retrieve the vehicle were halted until this morning when wrecking equipment could be brought in.

We happened to be in the string of cars on 140 entering the park when the rescue operation was taking place. Traffic was halted for over an hour before the heavily mangled car was brought out on the back of a flatbed truck. At that time the body still had not been found. As we exited the park the Search and Rescue team had finished operations about a mile downstream from the crash site (4 hours later) and were leaving. Still unsure if they found the body but it appeared they had.

The Mariposa Gazette has more information up over here: http://www.mariposagazette.com/mar_09/news_3_14_sar.html

Updated: The womans body has been recovered the Fresno Bee is reporting. We actually passed by and noticed something “body like” wrapped in plastic along side the CHP cars.

Our hearts and sympathy goes out to the family. We wish you the best.
