Edie’s Image of the Day: Reflections on Mercy I

The Merced River winds its way down from the high Sierra, flows over the Giant Staircase of Nevada and Vernal falls, converging with Tenaya Creek in Yosemite Valley.  It eventually leaves the Sierra, and is the primary source of water for Lake McLure.

Edie’s Image of the Day: Blown away

Horsetail Fall, April 16th, 2012.

While February is the traditional month to photograph Horsetail Falls, and much has been written about the “natural firefall”,  it’s good to keep in mind that this particular fall is photogenic whenever there is water flowing.  It is the only fall in Yosemite that is not recessed into the granite walls, but juts out proudly into the valley.  This allows for spectacular lighting in the late afternoon.

Edie’s Image of the Day: Mr. Alan Ross

I was very flattered when I received notification that Alan Ross had decided to follow my Twitter stream–I’d met him briefly when he’d come to Yosemite to re-photograph Ansel’s Moon Over Half Dome several years ago.  Mr. Ross was one of Ansel’s assistants, and has established himself as a photographic artist in his own right.

I had the pleasure of visiting him on a recent trip, and meeting his gracious wife and two gregarious dogs.  I am also pleased to say that I finally have “stepped foot” into a darkroom, an auspicious first.  Thank you to Alan for his hospitality!

Mr. Ross is currently leading a workshop here in Yosemite.  I wish him good light and happy ‘graphing with his students.

Hello!  Loyd has offered me a chance to share my images with you, his readers. I’ll be queuing up images for daily posting, Monday through Friday each week. I hope you enjoy the images collected over 7 years of living in Yosemite. Mostly the images will be from Yosemite, but occasionally I’ll post images from my peripatetic wanderings across America.

I’d like to share a bit of doggerel that has informed my attitude for many years: from “Desiderata”, by Max Ehermann “With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.”

Another Great Photo from Yosemite Steve

Yosemite Steve (aka Steven M. Bumgardner) took a bunch of beautiful shots this weekend during and after the storm. This one I was thinking about using for Photo of the Day but decided on the other. I wanted to share this one anyway. I love the way the clouds are moving in the Valley revealing only small glimpses.

Great shot, Steven!
