The National Park Service has given the OK for the Ahwahnee to reopen tomorrow, August 28th at 4:00 p.m.
After a geologic assessment of the area today, the decision was made to reopen the Ahwahnee at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 28. This opening is contingent on no further rockfall activity.
There was a series of rocks of varying sizes that landed in the parking lot adjacent to the Ahwahnee. The largest rock that fell is estimated to be 350 cubic meters.
Visitors with reservations at the Ahwahnee tonight should call DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, Inc. Central Reservations at 801-559-5000.

Are you sure about that 350 cubic meters number? A cubic meter is about the size of a dorm fridge — 350 cubic meters probably isn’t much smaller than the Ahwahnee itself. Is it possible that 350 cubic meters of rock fell, or the largest rock was 3.5 cubic meters?
I won’t know personally until people are allowed back in the area so I have to go with what the NPS is telling me (http://www.nps.gov/yose/parknews/ahwahneerockfall2.htm). 350 cubic meters is 12,360 cubic feet so I wonder if maybe they mean that’s the total amount released not ‘the largest rock that fell’.
