A Great Idea to Brighten Up Your Campsite

Gravity Light data-recalc-dims=

I’ve long used a white gas lantern while camping. Sure, I have a battery powered fluorescent tube lantern and flash lights but in a pinch it’s always the white gas one that gets pulled out and fired up. Of course, that works great for me but what if I’m not the one trying to light the thing? Or what if the mantles break or a new mantle is needed and I’m out? Here’s an ingenious new light I stumbled across on ArsTechnica this morning that uses a bag of rocks or sand and gravity to power a nice little LED light making it perfect for camping or even backcountry use.

The Gravity Light is a crowd funded project and has already met it’s goal. But, if you’re interested in getting one you can pay $60 to send one to a village in Africa and receive one yourself. More information on the light and how you can potentially get one is available here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/282006.
