  • Our Tip Line – (209) 846-2112

Tonight was a busy night for our tip line. I’ve actually had 3 calls just today. If you see anything you think would be interesting to other Yosemite Blog readers, have a question, want to make a comment but can’t figure out the comment system then pick up the phone and give us a call.…

  • Removed

Tonight I received a call on the Yosemite Blog tip line from a reader whose father’s body had been found in Yosemite under mysterious circumstances. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the reader our deepest sympathies in the death of her father. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one…

  • This Months Contest

I’ve had a couple people write in to ask if I gave away the Flickr Pro account last month and the answer is yes. I promised the winner since it was going to be a birthday present I wouldn’t mention his name or his daughters. Thank you everyone who entered. There will be another drawing…

  • Photo of the Day: Yosemite Falls at Night by Sean Walsh

Sean Walsh sent in this really cool pic of Upper Yosemite Fall at night he took last April and I must say, I really like it. Sean says the trees were lit by the ground lights so I’m guessing those are the ones outside Yosemite Lodge. They add a nice contrast to the shot. Nicely…

  • Adams Captured Emotion in Nature

Christopher Yates of the Columbus Dispatch wrote up a pretty nice piece on Ansel Adams work. The Columbus Dispatch: “Adams was a Renaissance man: He was a photographer, musician, environmental activist, writer and teacher. His 10 books on photographic techniques and processes were some of the most influential texts on the subject. His ‘zone system,’…

  • Clouds Fire Burning By Half Dome and John Muir Trail

The Clouds Fire just off the John Muir trail near Half Dome and Moraine Dome is currently 3/4 of an acre. The fire appears to have been caused by visitors and, in keeping with NPS policy, will be suppressed. No trail closures at this time. Trail monitors are in place to monitor the fire’s growth.…

  • Photo of the Day: Yosemite by Kyle Roderick

I love summer in California. Unfortunately it’s not the most interesting time to be a nature photographer. The skies are blue and listless. The light is often overly bright and washes everything out. It’s great for a suntan but lousy for photography. This photo, however, is the exception. I stumbled across this one while reviewing…

  • Half Dome in 2.5 Hours

Got a couple hours to spare? Been hanging out at the climbing gym and looking for a little more excitement? Maybe you should do what Alex Honnold did, free-soloed the 23 pitch Regular Northwest Face up Half Dome in a mere 2 hours and 50 minutes. Alex scrambled up to the base of the 5.12a…

  • Photo of the Day: Half Dome by Edie Howe-Byrne

OMG It’s snowing in Yosemite! Just kidding. HAHAHAHA! Today’s Photo of the Day is another one of Edie’s beautiful shots, this one from early this year when Half Dome was blanketed in snow. Very beautiful, Edie. You can find more of Edie’s beautiful shots and some of her writings over on her blog at http://www.littleredtent.net/blog.…
