Yosemite will be hosting the above forum on Feb 6-8 at the Yosemite Lodge in the Valley. To quote the announcement of the purpose: “To further the understanding of, and explore approaches to addressing, user capacity in National Parks and other public lands by engaging public land managers, researchers, elected officials, tribes, and the general public in an open dialogue.” This not just a bureaucratic snoozer. As you recall, there is an injunction in place keeping the park from rebuilding after the 1997 flood. The issue at the heart is the demand by environmental groups to have a firm maximum number of visitors in the park. This forum will provide insight into User Capacity topics useful to ameliorate this. If you can attend (and have snow chains), you’ll need to secure accommodations and register. Contact Jim Bacon Planning Division, Yosemite National Park at 209-379-1067 or Jim_Bacon@nps.gov and he will send you full details.
