What would you do with $5.8 million? That’s the question Yosemite National Park officials are asking themselves after the nonprofit Yosemite Fund presented them with a check for that amount Saturday.
$5.8 million can do a lot. Already this year the Yosemite Fund paid for the rehabilitation of the Half Dome Overlook improving pedestrian and vehicle access, making the site handicap accessible, adding educational signage and viewing terraces for a mere $800,000 – a drop in the bucket compared to most government projects.
Yosemite Fund donors also funded projects to restore Wawona Meadow, repair trails in the backcountry and Yosemite Valley, provide protection for endangered Peregrine Falcons within the park and restore amphitheaters near several Valley campgrounds.

One response to “Yosemite Receives $5.8 million Check”
The check presented to the Park at Donor’s Day was a symbolic check for the 2009 projects and grants made in 2009. It represented the money they spent in 2009 – not a fresh check for $5.8M.
