Yosemite is for Teachers!

Yosemite is a great place to learn about the plants and animals that comprise the ecosystems within the Sierra Nevada. It’s also a great place to learn about glaciation and the forces that shape our world. Unfortunately, most schools don’t have it in their budget to send their classes to Yosemite or the school is too far to make a day or overnight trip into the park feasible. Well, if you can’t bring your class to Yosemite, why not bring Yosemite to your classroom?

No, I’m not crazy. I’m talking about the Distance Learning program from the National Park Service in Yosemite. Through the Distance Learning Program educators can work with the parks education team to develop the perfect program for your classroom on virtually any park-related topic. Topics range from bears, geology, climate change, flora and fauna, native american culture, Giant Sequoias, pioneer history, watersheds and wildlife.

The education team can arrange for an education ranger to provide a Parks as Classrooms program right into a classroom or youth center via the internet!

When you’re ready, the education team can help you coordinate a field trip to the park and even get a waiver for the entrance fee for your class.
