Yosemite Gets 5″ of Early Season Snow Forcing Closure of Glacier and Tioga Roads

I noted yesterday that I was watching it snow at Glacier Point on the Yosemite Association webcam well the snow accumulation was enough that it forced the closure of the Glacier Point and Tioga Roads.

AP : About five inches of snow has forced the closure of several roads in Yosemite National Park, at least for the next few days.

Glacier Point Road, one of the park’s popular sightseeing paths, was closed early Thursday, according to a park spokeswoman.

“It’s not an entrance road, but it goes to Glacier Point, where people like to go up to get views,” Adrienne Freeman said.

Tioga Pass from east of Crane Flat to Lee Vining also was closed Thursday.

“At this point it will probably be closed temporarily, but if the weather becomes drastically worse, then we’ll close it for the season,” Freeman said.

Freeman said she expected the roads to reopen during the weekend.
