Yosemite Awash In A Flood – Of Visitors

Seems the warm temperatures, beautiful weather, and the lure of gushing waterfalls has brought another flood to Yosemite Valley, this one of people.

Union Democrat: “Spectacular springtime waterfalls drew so many people to Yosemite National Park last weekend that some visitors were asked to wait an hour before entering Yosemite Valley.

Park officials said people approaching the Valley from the east, between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday, were asked to spend an hour visiting other parts of the park first because the Valley was so crowded.

Park officials expect crowds equally as big or larger Memorial Day weekend.

Park spokeswoman Deb Schweizer said the park had at least 20,000 visitors per day last weekend, and she expects more of the same starting Friday.

The three-day Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the most popular of the year at Yosemite, and Schweizer said she expects it to be even busier this year because exceptionally heavy snowmelt is making the park’s waterfalls more spectacular than usual.”
