Wildcat Fire Continues to Burn – Some Trails Reopen Along Tuolumne

The Wildcat fire remains active tonight having burnt approximately 957 acres have burned since lightning ignited the fire. The is continuing burn slowly along the north and south sides of the Tuolumne River, and up onto the north rim of the Tuolumne River Canyon. The most active flank over the weekend and yesterday was on the northeast flank along Return Creek, approximately one mile north of the Tuolumne River and may continue to push to the northeast and cross Return Creek.

Trail closures are in effect: A portion of the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne Canyon trail has now been re-opened to California Falls from Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp. The trail remains closed, however, from Pate Valley on the west to California Falls to the east. Fire crews are working diligently to get this popular trail opened.
