Thursday’s weird snowstorm in August did one good thing, it helped firefighters battling the Wildcat Fire.
“The guys are drying out and getting warm after yesterday’s light snow shower,” says Fire Information Officer Gary Wuchner. “It wasn’t very measurable, but it slowed the fire, and activity is relatively low right now.”
Overnight temperatures on Thursday dipped down into the 20’s in the Grand Canyon area of the Tuolumne River where the fire is burning.
Crews will continue to manage the fire for wilderness and forest restoration purposes. It likely will not be fully extinguished until a major storm or cool front moves in later this year. Currently the fire is estimated to be about 640 acres in size.
