Venues needed for Denny exhibit

This is the last week to see “Yosemite in the Sixties: Climbing life through the lens of Glen Denny”, at the museum (near the Visitor’s Center). There are some amazing photos at this exhibit. Check out these two at the Yosemite Climbing Association.

The YCA wants to “… have the Denny exhibit travel. Anyone that may have an interest in hosting the show or know of a venue that may be interested please give us a call. We would like to keep this exhibit moving throughout the year and even the country and perhaps even abroad. This is a fundamental step for Yosemite’s history to be interpreted so that the climbing community can have an understanding of our origins and direction.”

The Yosemite Facelift, hosted by YCA in the Fall, has become a record breaking annual cleanup of the park. The Park Service valued this year’s work at $344,148.00 and the Access Fund had to create a new award for these folks:

_____________________________________________________________

“The Access Fund “In a League of Their Own Award” (NEW for 2007) is presented to the 4th Annual Yosemite Facelift, hosted by the Yosemite Climbing Association and organized by Ken Yager. Last year’s Yosemite Facelift broke all-time Adopt-a-Crag records with over 1,100 volunteers and 9,200 volunteer hours. For that, Ken Yager and the YCA received
the Adopt-a-Crag of the Year Award.”

“This year the Yosemite Facelift had OVER 2,900 volunteers and 18,300 volunteer hours! As a result, the Yosemite Facelift has been removed from the normal Adopt-a-Crag Awards. Until someone gives Ken a run for his money, we have placed the Yosemite Facelift in a league of its own.” — The Access Fund

I rushed in today (Sat., 1-26) to see the exhibit before it closed and my impression is WOW!!!

What superb documentary reportage coupled with an artist’s eye however unintentional it may have been at the time!

I,for one, am going to try to stir up interest for a venue in Southern California (Patagonia is based in Ventura, for example.)
