KXTV: Authorities near Yosemite National Park are searching for a U.C. Davis student who has been missing since June.
Friends said Hyundo Ahn, a linguistics major from South Korea, was last seen in the Yosemite National Park June 20 as he prepared to begin a 12-day hike along the 211-mile John Muir trail. Ahn had recently completed nine months studying at U.C. Davis and had planned a series of sight-seeing trips across the U.S. before his scheduled return to South Korea July 21.
National Park Service investigators said Ahn picked up a permit to begin the hike along the historic trail June 20. The trek was scheduled to end at Mt. Whitney July 1. From there, Ahn was supposed to fly to Los Angeles and stay at the home of a family friend. Ahn never arrived, prompting a call to Ahn’s foreign exchange family last week to report the student missing.
Ahn had reportedly studied the trail and was equipped with the cold-weather gear and other equipment necessary to complete the trip. Investigators said the route was still covered in snow at higher level elevations during the time of Ahn’s planned journe
