Tioga Road Opening Date – Not Anytime Soon

How deep is the snow in Tioga Pass, Yosemite National Park? Take a look at the webcam.

Pam wrote in to ask me the other day, “When am I going to be able to go through Tioga Pass?”

Well, not anytime soon. Tioga Pass is closed and, unless there’s some freak warm front and storm that comes through to melt all the snow, will probably be for a while. Traditionally the Park Service tries to have the pass plowed by the last 2 weeks of May but that really depends on conditions.

These last 2 storms dropped a nice amount of snow (that we really need) so I don’t foresee them opening earlier than that this year. Above you can see a picture from the UCSD webcam located in Tioga Pass that’ll give you a pretty good idea how deep the snow is right now. The little building is the entrance in a nice, warm, sunny exposed location.
