Spend Earth Day with John Muir

Here’s a pretty cool way you can spend Earth Day from the Yosemite Conservancey, spend it with John Muir and his great-great-grandson!

John Muir and Yosemite are an inspiring example of individual matched with landscape. We’ll observe John Muir Day on a Yosemite Valley saunter on Earth Day weekend. Guiding our Muir exploration will be the distinguished company of Muir’s great-great-grandson (Robert Hanna) along with a favorite Muir actor (Frank Helling). We’ll explore where Muir lived and worked in the Valley, explore some of his favorite haunts, learn about his glacial discoveries, and meet some of the plants he tended.

The hike is 4 miles around Yosemite Valley and considered “easy”. Tickets are $82 per person from the Yosemite Conservancy. If you’re a YC member it’s only $70. The Yosemite Conservancy is a great organization who helps the park with projects the National Park Service couldn’t normally afford on their limited budget, presents interesting and educational events and publishes some wonderful materials. I encourage everyone to join. It’s well worth the money to help protect something as beautiful as Yosemite and you can take pride in your being a friend of Yosemite. You can find out more information about the hike by visiting the Yosemite Conservancy page here and sign up to become a member of the Yosemite Conservancy here.
