  • Firefalls 2008: Follow up.

Our friend Tom Lambert has a post up on his blog, YosemiteExplorer.com about the Royal Arches fire; In a nutshell, a fire was spotted on Monday night at that spot. Speculation is that climbers coming off the Royal Arches route lit it to get warm, and didn’t extinguish it properly. You can read Tom’s account…

  • Firefalls 2008: Let the fire fall!

There was a fire on the north rim today, just west of Northdome and slightly east of Royal Arches Cascades. Tonight I noticed the light as I went out for a smoke, went and grabbed my camera and took several shots. Unfortunately I don’t have a wireless release and so had to resort to hand-holding…

  • Photo of the Day: Bridalveil Falls Slow by BigFrank

There’s a bunch of people that thought this photo of Big Frank’s should have been deleted or much worse, never made, but I beg to differ. I really like the contrasts and tones of the shot. That’s why I chose it to be Photo of the Day. Very cool Frank. Nicely done. Photo by Big…

  • Photo of the Day: Hikers and Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park by Miguel Vieira

I chose today’s Photo of the Day not for overwhelming scenic beauty but for what it shows us. The hike to the top of Nevada Fall is long and exposed. If you’re planning on going up ANY trail in the park but especially the Mist Trail or the trail to the top of Half Dome,…

  • Robert Scoble and Thomas Hawk Hang Out With Michael Adams

Thomas Hawk takes some beautiful photos and I will admit I’m openly jealous. A few days ago Thomas and Robert Scoble (aka Scobleizer to all you geeks out there) were lucky enough to spend 2 days with Michael Adams, Ansel Adams son, and get a front row tour of some of Adams’ favorite locations. Very…

I think this is one of my all time favorite shots. Tenaya Canyon, Half Dome by Tony Immoos. What a great shot. Nice work Tony. Photo by Tony Immoos via Flickr.

  • Video – swiftwater rescue training

I can’t go anywhere lately without running into the rescue people. This one was fun to watch because they’re IN the river — the ice cold snow-melt Merced near the Happy Isles bridge. The training was done by Sierra Rescue for NPS, USFS, county agencies, and river guides. Link to photos Link to video Photos…

  • Photo of the Day: Nevada Falls by Brian Helfrich

Today’s Photo of the Day comes to us from Brian who contributes to Yosemite Blog from time to time. It’s a great shot of the top of Nevada Falls. I’m tempted to ask if you were behind the safety railing but…I don’t want to know. Great photo Brian. Photo by Brian Helfrich via Flickr.

  • Rescue training video

I called in sick the other day and went to Nevada Falls. On the way up, I stumbled onto this YOSAR training at the bridge below Vernal Falls. Link to video (one minute and forty-six seconds) Link to Friends of YOSAR (Yosemite Search and Rescue) Photo by Brian Helfrich
