Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad Sign Burns as Railroad Fire Spreads Just South of Yosemite

Residents Return as Fish Camp Fire Reaches 75% Containment

Residents are being allowed to return to their homes as the Railroad Fire has slowed in growth and firefighters have nearly contained the fire.

Fire crews will continue to extinguish hot spots along the perimeter of the fire and begin fire line suppression repair, repairing or improving land damaged during fire suppression and line construction activity. The fire still remains active on the east side near Big Sandy campgrounds. Highway 41 re-opened this weekend to thru traffic.

The fire continues to burn in high tree mortality areas consisting of Ponderosa Pine and Incense Cedar and is expected to continue to spread southeast toward California Meadow from Speckerman Mountain Peak and spread further into the Nelder Grove Historic Area.

Many areas in and around the fire have reopened. Those areas include Fish Camp, Tenaya Lodge, and Cedar Valley.

The fire has scorched more than 12,407 acres and is at 75% containment.

Thank you to all the crews who have worked hard to contain the fire.
