Rainier’s Uberuaga Ready to Step Into Tollefson’s Boots

With Mike Tollefson’s retirement eminent a temporary replacement is already lacing up his boots and getting ready to step in until a permanent replacement can be found.

Mercury News: Mount Rainier National Park Superintendent David Uberuaga (YU-ber-AH-gah) will start as Yosemite’s acting head on January 4.

Superintendent Michael Tollefson announced in August he was stepping down to take a position as president of the Yosemite Fund, a nonprofit agency that raises money for the park.

Uberuaga, who has been with the park service for 24 years, will serve in Tollefson’s place until federal officials announce their pick for a permanent superintendent.

In Washington, Uberuaga has overseen the completion of a new park visitor center at Mount Rainier’s historic Paradise Inn.
