A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ABOVE 4000 FEET REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM PDT FRIDAY FOR THE WEST SLOPES OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: TWO TO FOUR INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ABOVE 4000 FEET…WITH THREE TO SIX INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET.

* TIMING: AFTER AN INITIAL PERIOD OF LIGHT SNOWFALL LATER TODAY…SNOW WILL INCREASE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING ABOVE 4000 FEET. LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE FRIDAY FTERNOON…TAPERING OFF BY FRIDAY EVENING.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: INTERSTATE 80 OVER DONNER PASS…HIGHWAY 50 OVER ECHO SUMMIT…AND HIGHWAY 88 OVER CARSON PASS.

* WINDS: SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH ARE POSSIBLE…WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH OVER MOUNTAIN RIDGES.

* IMPACTS: HAZARDOUS TRAVELING CONDITIONS DUE TO SNOW. VISIBILITY UNDER ONE-QUARTER MILE. SLICK ROADS WITH CHAIN CONTROLS AND TRAVEL DELAYS POSSIBLE. DANGEROUS BACK COUNTRY CONDITIONS AND
COLD TEMPERATURES FOR HIKERS AND CAMPERS.
