Photo of the Day: Vernal Fall by Andrea Manuell

Today’s Photo of the Day was sent in via email from Andrea and is a beautiful shot of Vernal Fall and came with a great story about how she happened to the perfect spot to take the photo. Andrea writes in:

“Our trip was great, but a few more tips might have helped us to better concentrate our planning efforts. I’m including a photo from what I *think* was Clark’s Point looking down on Vernal Fall (taken 7/27/07). You may have seen a hundred like it, but it was my first time in Yosemite, so I’m pretty excited about it 🙂 My friends and I went this last weekend because we could take the time, but we knew going in that we would have to deal with the crowds of people coming in the summer to the valley, so we tried to go a bit above where we could manage it to avoid the crowds, and in one short stint where we thought we *might* be a bit lost for about a half hour, we came across this fantastic view, and had it all to ourselves! There had to have been hundreds of people climbing to the bottom of the falls, and even dozens and dozens playing in the pool at the top of Vernal Fall, but somehow we managed to get lost enough to find this peaceful view. We picked up two more small groups of hikers that also suspected that they were going the wrong way before we came across the sign pointing the way to the top of Nevada Fall or back down into the valley. I still don’t believe that we only went about 5 miles and less than 2000 ft up, but it was truly awesome and a bit grueling with the heat for our first trek in Yosemite.”

Great shot Andrea and great story. Sounds like you had a fun time. Thanks for sending in your photo.

Remember if you’d like to send in photos that could be a photo of the day or used in a post on Yosemite Blog send them to LOYD@YOSEMITEBLOG.COM or you can tag them on your Flickr account with yosemiteblog, yosemiteblog.com, or yosemiteblogcom. Either way I’ll see them.
