I chose today’s Photo of the Day not for overwhelming scenic beauty but for what it shows us. The hike to the top of Nevada Fall is long and exposed. If you’re planning on going up ANY trail in the park but especially the Mist Trail or the trail to the top of Half Dome, take LOTS of water. Water is super super important and can’t be stressed enough. So take plenty of water.
I recommend getting a couple sturdy Nalgene bottles from any one of the stores and keeping them in your bag. The plastic ones you buy out of the grocery case are prone to breaking and not only leave you without water but can soak your camera and other stuff in your backpack.

I’ll second that advice. There is a nice water fountain at the Vernal Fall Bridge. If you are planning to do the hike beyond Nevada Fall all the way to Half Dome, I suggest you not carry the water you’ll need, but rather bring a water treatment device (giardia lurks in Yosemite’s waters). I prefer a water filter pump. Another new product is the Steripen UV light “generator”. It zaps the DNA of all living things! And toss in some electrolyte replacement too. Hydrate or die!
