Today’s Photo of the Day is a beautiful shot of Half Dome, the High Sierra, Nevada Fall and Little Yosemite Valley from Gary Denham. This is exactly the type of beautiful shot that makes me think Glacier Point is one of the most awesome places in the park to shoot at sunset.
Beautiful shot, Gary. Nicely done.

Thanks for picking up the photo. The sunset at Glacier Point is stunning, although the drive back in the dark is pretty hairy, especially when your sat nav is suggesting you take unpaved roads back to Mariposa – no thanks!
Actually, one shouldn’t depend on a GPS, especially at night, while driving that road from Glacier Point to Mariposa. It’s way too dangerous! You’re definitely correct on that assumption. That’s one of the reasons they have the warning signs on board, when you first get connected.
I usually drive with my eyes closed. It’s easier when my wife wife asks me if I’m watching the road to say “No” and it’s always a surprise when you arrive at the destination.
When I got directed onto the Chowchilla Mountain Road at Wamona, I switched the sat nav off, dug out the trusty paper map and got back on the highway!
Chowchilla Mountain…rangers aren’t going to like to hear that. That’s the “ranger road” into the park from Mariposa.
