So I got to talking with @victorcajiao on Twitter about the upcoming controlled burn at Crane Flat and photo opportunities and happened to hunt down this set of photos as an example of shooting a controlled burn at night.
Controlled burns aren’t usually that great to shoot during the day as the flames are small and, because they’re usually carried out when humidity is somewhat high, it’s smokey. But at night they can be awesome like this beautiful photo by Edie Howe of a rare controlled burn in Yosemite Valley.
Beautiful shot, Edie.
Don’t forget to check out Edie’s blog for more awesome photos and her view as a photographer living and working in Yosemite. You can find her at LittleRedTent.net/lrtblog.

Thanks for the Twitter conversation. This will be our first trip to the park and I want to get the best pictures possible while also worried about my wife’s health. Sounds like it may not be too bad. We plan on doing the bulk of our shooting during the early morning or late afternoon (Magic hour). Thanks for this great blog , I’ve been getting excited about our trip just looking at this blog. nice to meet you.
Wonderful shot, Edie. One thing we can count on with Edie, is that she’ll “be there” when something like this happens.

Beautiful photo. Was there a time lapse at all in this shot?
