NPS Special Agent Collapses on Mist Trail

Our deepest sympathies go out to the wife and family of Special Agent Madrid.

KESQ: “The National Park Service said today that a park officer died while hiking to investigate a visitor fatality in Yosemite National Park.

Special Agent Daniel Paul Madrid collapsed on the Mist Trail in Yosemite National Park on Saturday. Fellow park rangers and a passing doctor were unable to resuscitate him.

The park service did not provide details about the cause of death.

The 51-year-old Madrid was stationed at Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri. But he was sent to Yosemite to work temporarily while other special agents and park rangers were assigned to assist hurricane response efforts along the Gulf Coast.

Madrid was one of 48 special agents in the National Park Service and the first to die in the line of duty.

Madrid is survived by his wife and two adult children.”
