Morning Shot – July 20 2009

We’re back from vacation. I hope everyone enjoyed the free entry to Yosemite and all the National Parks this past weekend.

Today’s Morning Shot is a pano stictched together on my iPhone 3GS using the application Pano from Debacle Software. Pano is just one of many applications for the iPhone we tested. Full reviews will be coming in the next couple of days as I get them finished so be sure to stick around.

Today’s Forecast: Hot! High near 100F in Yosemite Valley. If you’re looking for someplace cooler to be head up to Tenaya Lake for a swim. The water is ICE cold.

Overnight lows are expected to be comfortable in the mid to upper 60’s.

Camping Tips: If you’re looking to get one of the first-come, first-served campsites at Tuolumne Meadows you better get up early. Though the office doesn’t open until 8 a.m. people start lining up between 6-7 a.m. to get a spot. Bring your own coffee because the Tuolumne Meadows store doesn’t open until 9 a.m. and it can be pretty chilly.

Mosquitos: The mosquitos population is alive and well in Yosemite. Be sure to bring lots of mosquito repellent. If you plan on staying outdoors a screened area is a big help to keep the pests away. Citronella candles do work but in a very limited area.

Great tool! We used Autostitcher when we went up there on July 4th. Autostitcher doesnt get the photo that large of a size when we tried it. We’ll have to try out Pano! Thanks!

Every reason you state above is why I love winter.

    NO:
    lines
    100F heat
    mosquitoes

    and
    no:
    smog
    fires
    human noises

…guess im gettin old and grumpy!
