If you follow us on Twitter you know we twitter the weather each morning and the next days weather each evening. Unfortunately we’ve begun to sound like a stuck record as every day’s forecast for the past week has been for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Unfortunately it’s going to continue for a while.
The warm tropical air is mixing with the cooler northern flow and we’re getting some spectacular thunderstorms in the afternoons and it’s expected to continue. The wave of pressure bringing the air up is holding stable so thunderstorms are forecast through early next week. The thunderstorms aren’t just bringing rain and hail as are common in Sierra thunderstorms but they’re bringing snow at the higher elevations.
If you’re headed up to the high country be sure you’re carrying at least 3 season rated gear. I know it seems a little like overkill since June is considered Summer here in California but we’ve had reports of as much as 0.5 inches of rain in one afternoon and significant snow fall.
This is great because it means the lightning coming with the storms isn’t sparking many fires and the fires already burning are easier to manage.

what a bad news! Weather wasn’t too good… 🙁
I miss the thunderstorms in the valley. Sitting and listening to thunder echo off the walls of the valley is an experience I’ll never forget. I just wish I had learned how to take lightning pictures back then. This may not be “perfect” weather but I think it just adds to the ambiance of the valley.
