The series of storms is expected to begin passing through the region Monday bringing with it winter-like temperatures which are expected to become successively cooler with each storm. The first storm expected Monday afternoon is expected to drop snow as low as 4500 feet with rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph at lower elevations.
Rain, light snow and high winds is expected to continue Tuesday and Wednesday with the strongest, coldest storms passing through Thursday and tapering off Sunday.
A total accumulation of up to 6 feet of snow is expected at higher elevations (7500’) with 3-5 inches of rain in the foothills and mountains.
Travelers should carry emergency food and water, warm clothes, bedding and tire chains or cables. Tire chains installers may not be available in all areas. Be prepared to chain up if necessary.
