Keeping a Part of History

The Sierra Nevada is full of interesting and diverse places to see in and around Yosemite National Park. On one of my more favorite roads is an old cabin standing in a fabulous meadow. I’d seen the name of the cabin on the map but I’d never stopped to find out its story.

Last weekend volunteers from the Stanislaus National Forest (just north of Yosemite) and the U.S. Forest Service pitched in to restore the 130 year old cabin and preserve it for future generations. Take a look.

ModBee.com: “There was a lot of activity around the otherwise silent and historic Fahey Cabin in the Stanislaus National Forest last week.

But instead of ranchers and their families working beeves in the big meadows around the 100-plus-year-old cabin, volunteers, Stanislaus National Forest fire crews and U.S. Forest Service specialists were busy restoring the line shack as part of the agency’s “Passport in Time” program.”

Be sure to read the rest of the article and if you happen to find your self in the Park with some time to spare, take a side trip up Highway 108 to visit Fahey Cabin. The meadow is fabulous as is the trout fishing nearby.
