If you’re planning on hiking Vernal or Nevada Falls be sure to stop by the visitor center as the Winter Route is now in use. This means that some areas are now off limits to protect visitors from falling ice, snow, and slipping on icy trails.

Planning a backcountry trip in Jan 07…would like to take the mist trail to Little Yosemite Valley, Merced and beyond. Would snow shoes be a necessity or can we get by with ice spikes and such….not planning to visit any of the high elevation trails…Glaicer point perhaps… Thanks for any input you might have.
I actually don’t like to hike in any adverse weather conditions. I know it adds an extra element of a challenge and sometimes it can be quite beautiful to see snow and ice on the ground, but to me it’s just not worth the hassle.
