The mild winter and early opening of the Tioga Road has allowed the earlier than expected opening of Yosemite’s High Sierra Camps.
Upcoming opening dates are:
Sunrise – Friday, June 29
Vogelsang – Friday, June 29
Merced Lake – Saturday, June 30.
Glen Aulin and May Lake are already open.
Located 5 to 10 miles apart along a loop trail, the camps offer a look into Yosemite’s beautiful high country without the need to carry mountains of backpacking gear. All High Sierra Camp lodging is in canvas tent cabins with dormitory-style accommodations. Dinner and breakfast are served family-style in a central dining tent.
High Sierra Camps are reserved in advance on a lottery basis in September for the following season. Due to early openings and regular cancellations, there is select availability for the 2012 season.
