Going to Yosemite This Weekend? You May Be Here a While

There’s a big winter storm headed to California the could bring snow as low as 1500 feet.

“A COLD FRONT WILL BRING SIGNIFICANTLY COLDER TEMPERATURES AND
SHOWERY PRECIPITATION TO INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA SUNDAY NIGHT
THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. SNOW LEVELS MAY LOWER TO NEAR 1500 FEET ON
MONDAY OVER THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS NEAR MARIPOSA AND CLOSER TO 4000
FEET OVER THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS. THESE SNOW LEVELS MAY AFFECT
ROADWAY HEADING INTO THE SIERRA NEVADA AND ACROSS THE KERN COUNTY
MOUNTAINS. WHILE THERE MAY BE A BRIEF BREAK IN BETWEEN SYSTEMS
LATE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY BEFORE A MUCH WARMER STORM SYSTEM
ARRIVES WEDNESDAY NIGHT…WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY VALLEY AND
MOUNTAIN RAINFALL AND SIGNIFICANT MOUNTAIN SNOWFALL. SNOW LEVELS
MAY RISE TO AROUND 6000 FEET WITH THE SECOND STORM.

THERE REMAINS A FAIR AMOUNT OF UNCERTAINTY IN THE TRACK AND THE
AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION WITH THESE SYSTEMS.(NOAA)”

The storm which is supposed to pass through late Saturday night and into Sunday will bring much needed precipitation to a very dry California.

Be sure, if you’re headed into the park, to carry tire chains and know how to put them on. Carry blankets and extra food and water in case you should become stuck in the snow during the storm. Cell phones don’t work on the roads into the Park so be sure to leave an itinerary with a friend and check in with them before and after you get to the park or leave so that they can alert emergency services should you be overdue.
