Falling Limb Smashes Car Injuring Yosemite Visitors

Two people were injured over the holiday weekend when a tree branch broke loose during strong wind gusts and crashed down onto a family’s car.

The family had stopped in a roadside pull-out along the Big Oak Flat Road when the branch fell on the car carrying a family of four. An adult occupant and a child were immediately flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

Park officials immediately closed the area and sent crews to cut down dead trees in the area and remove any dangerous tree limbs.

The accident is still under investigation.
