Expect Weird Weather for Memorial Day

If you’re heading up to the park this weekend bring some warm clothes and a rain jacket. It’s going to be cold and could get wet as cool air mass passes through Central California bringing unseasonably cool temperatures and a chance of thunderstorms with rain, hail, lightning and, as usual in the Sierra, maybe even a snow flurry or two.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to drop to a high of 52 on Friday with a low of 38. Expect windy conditions with winds gusting up to 20mph and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Saturday the daytime high should reach 60 with an overnight low of 60 and a chance of thunderstorms. Sunday highs will reach the low 70s with lots of sunshine and the same for Monday.

Hikers should use caution on Friday and Saturday if attempting to summit Half Dome especially in turbulent weather.
