Climber Rescued From El Capitan After Fall

A climber fell and was injured about 800 feet up as he and some climbing partners were attempting the East Buttress Route of El Capitan. The climber was injured June 1st after he took a 15-foot fall while lead climbing on the eighth pitch. The route at the accident site was wet from mist blowing over from Horse Tail Falls.

Though the climbers’ fall was arrested by his climbing rope, it was unable to stop him before he slammed into a ledge and injured his back, head and pelvis. The injured climbers climbing partners lowered him a short distance to a large ledge where he was extricated by helicopter.
