Bad weather claimed the life of a 44 year old Oakland man when he was trapped on Cathedral Peak overnight by sleet and snow.
San Jose Mercury News: “Peter Charles Noble, 44, was unresponsive when park rescue crews found him Sunday morning, park officials said.
Bad weather trapped Noble and his climbing partner, whose name has not been released, on Cathedral Peak overnight.
The craggy, 2,350-foot outcrop is located just south of Tioga Pass Road, or Highway 120, in Tuolomne Meadows. The popular climb, which takes about seven hours to ascend, can turn treacherous during fall and winter months when weather conditions can change unexpectedly.
The climbers were trapped by sleet and snow as they tried to descend the summit, park officials said.
They were on a hiking trail about 1 1/2 miles from Tioga Pass Road early Sunday morning when Noble was unable to continue and the hiking partner went to find help, according to park officials.”
